- Cosgrove Law, LLC wins $3.25 million award against Questar Capital Corporation
January 13, 2012 – Cosgrove Law, LLC won a $3.25 million award for their client, a former securities broker, in a hard-fought FINRA arbitration. The client filed a FINRA arbitration against his former employer, Questar Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of Allianz Life Insurance, for tortious interference, breach of contract, negligence and defamation. David B. Cosgrove and Kurt J. Schafers were the lead attorneys on this matter and were able to fight for a successful outcome for the client during the 15 days of arbitration hearing. The Panel also denied and dismissed Questar’s $10 million Counterclaim in its entirety. She received her Law degree, magna cum laude, and Masters in Business degree, magna cum laude, from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, FL where she served as Notes and Comments Editor for the St. Thomas University Law Review. - Cosgrove Law, LLC Selected as the Lead Firm on Constitutional Challenge Suit
May 14, 2011 – The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) recently selected Cosgrove Law, LLC to take the lead on a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a section Missouri Senate Bill 795. HSUS was joined by Dogwood Animal Shelter, Inc. and Stray Rescue of St. Louis as Plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed today in Cole County, Missouri against the State of Missouri. The suit seeks to stop a new government fee on non-profit animal shelters in Missouri as it alleges that the provision of SB 795 in question violates the Missouri constitution in that it differs from the original purpose of the bill. The complaint seeks a declaratory judgment that the provision removing the exemption is unconstitutional, as well as permanent injunctive relief against the enforcement of the provision. Until the passage of SB 795 last year, Missouri’s animal shelters were exempt from the licensing fees that the Missouri Department of Agriculture imposes on licensed breeders, pet stores, and other similar commercial entities.
