Prior to joining Cosgrove Law, LLC, Mr. Schafers worked at Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP in St. Louis for several years where his practice focused on commercial, products liability, premises liability, and real estate litigation. Mr. Schafers has represented Fortune 500 companies and other business entities in state and federal courts and in arbitration proceedings throughout the United States.

Currently, Mr. Schafers’ litigation practice is concentrated in the areas of contract disputes, intellectual property, real estate, personal injury, ERISA, and fiduciary litigation.  He has successfully represented clients in both state and federal courts in Missouri as well as Illinois.

In the last year alone, Mr. Schafer’s clients have included:

  • A national pharmaceutical company
  • An independent registered investment advisor
  • A not-for-profit corporation
  • The holder of an infringed computer program copyright
  • The purchasers of commercial as well as residential properties
  • An ERISA plan participant
  • The defrauded guarantor of a promissory note for business capital
  • A national manufacturing distributor of components of pet products

Mr. Schafers received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from Truman State University, cum laude, in 2001. He received his law degree from St. Louis University School of Law, cum laude, in 2005. During law school, Mr. Schafers received an Academic Excellence Award for Property. He also served as a Notes and Comments Editor for the Public Law Review and was a teaching assistant for Legal Research and Writing. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Schafers worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

Mr. Schafers is licensed in both Missouri and Illinois, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.  Mr. Schafers currently serves as the Federal Litigation & Practice Section Chair on the 2011-2012 Board of Governors for The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.
